Course Description
WELCOME!
We welcome you back to another exciting school year in Social Studies. Seventh grade is an important year as we will continue to equip scholars with the skills that will help them to be successful in eighth grade and beyond. With that in mind, we believe that all scholars have the ability to shape their own lives and education in positive ways. Our goal this year is to have them recognize their potential and encourage them to use these skills to lay the path for a great academic and social future!
Modules of Study
This school year, scholars will be studying the history of the United States from the American Revolution in the 1770s to the days just before the Civil War in the 1850s. This period will be split up into 4 units which are listed below. Over the course of the units scholars will have the opportunity to continue to develop and strengthen their study skills, cooperative learning skills, critical thinking skills, reading skills and writing skills through the following modules based on those from New York State’s Standards, a curriculum framework:

Homework Policy
In order to build on and strengthen the content that is taught in class, homework will be assigned most nights. Additionally, scholars will be expected to complete any incomplete classwork assignments at home. Homework is due at the beginning of the next class, unless otherwise stated by the teachers. Incomplete homework will be graded at the teacher's discretion. Missing homework will result in a 0; however, scholars are more than welcome to turn in late assignments but with a penalty.
We want all scholars to remember that partial credit is better than no credit at all!
Absentee Policy
If scholars are absent or late for class, they will be held accountable for completing the missing work, unless otherwise specified by the teacher. Scholars should take responsibility for their absence by asking either Mr. Liberto or Ms. Farrell for their missed assignments. The make-up work is due at the beginning of the next class day.
Teacherease
All grades will be maintained in Teacherease; parents will have access to this website at all times. If you experience any problems with Teacherease, please contact Ms. Miranda in the Main Office at 718-517-3169.
Required Materials
In order to be successful, scholars must be prepared at all times with the following materials:
PBIS Values
Consistent with the mission of ECS, each of our classes will include scholars of varying abilities and learning styles. We maintain a high level of academic rigor and a nurturing learning community for all scholars. In order to do this, scholars should follow Equality’s PBIS Values (Achievement and Progress, Respect, Responsibility, and Cooperation) with pride at all times to make the school a comfortable environment for all!
Classroom Rewards
When positive behaviors are exhibited and academic expectations are adhered to, they will be rewarded! There will be a variety of class-wide, small group and individual rewards given by the teachers to those who consistently go above and beyond the expectations set in place.
