Course Description
The aim of 8th grade Social Studies is to enable scholars to become independent thinkers with respect to the history of the United States. They will be encouraged to create their own arguments based on the information they are presented with, and use evidence from various sources to support their thinking. Additionally, students will be expected to translate their learning into content-rich discussions.
Thematic Units of Study-Summary of Unit
Unit 1: War
Scholars will analyze the causes, and long term effects, and impacts different wars have had on the United States and outside countries.
Unit 2: Reconstruction Period
Scholars will analyze and assess the various methods used by the government to reunify the country post-civil war.
Unit 3:Progressive Era
Scholars will justify the nation’s response to the deteriorating conditions of the social structures during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Unit 4: Civil Rights
Scholars will compare and contrast different techniques and strategies created by Americans to ensure equality among all individuals.
